Museum Advocacy Day 2012

Advocate for Museums In Your Community Newspaper!

Museums Advocacy Day 2012 is February 27 – 28 in Washington, DC. Even if you can not join AASLH, AAM, and hundreds more of your colleagues, you can still advocate for your museum in your local press! Choose one of these op-ed formats from AAM to customize for your museum:

Help make your case to key elected officials and your broader community about the importance of history organizations to our community and nation! The goal is to focus these op-ed pieces on the most critical issues facing our country today, and ones where museums are having a significant impact: the economy, education, and overall value of history organizations. Localize the piece you choose by adding your organization’s accomplishments as appropriate. Once you have adapted the piece most appropriate for your museum and its community, pitch the idea to local editors or the media contact with whom you are most familiar. Effective use of these op-eds can bolster efforts to convey the museum value message nationwide as part of Museums Advocacy Day 2012.
