“Erie Airport Recollections” Exhibit Opening and Program

The Fairview Area Historical Society will present the exhibit “Erie Airport Recollections” on three Sundays from November 3 to 17 at the Sturgeon House, 4302 Avonia Road, from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit will conclude on Wednesday, November 20, in a program by local historian Sabina Freeman titled “From Griswold Field to the Erie International Airport,” beginning at 7:30 p.m.

From a cleared hayfield in 1924 to the modern airport called Erie International, the story of Erie’s airport has been exciting and at times frustrating. Early in its history it took many years for Erie City Council to select the present site from among several as its municipal field.

The exhibit will include photos, posters and the recollections of a jack-of-all-trades Capital Airlines employee from 1946 to 1955.

The exhibit and the program are open to the public. Admission is free.
