Apply for a Pennsylvania Humanities Council Speaker

The Pennsylvania Humanities Council invites all non-profit groups to apply to host a Commonwealth Speaker presentation featuring an expert in the humanities.

For more than twenty years, the Commonwealth Speakers program has contracted educators and scholars from around the state to provide quality presentations on a variety of topics including music, folk and traditional arts, and American history.  The 2012-13 Commonwealth Speakers line-up features more than 50 Speakers-selected for their expertise and their ability to engage an audience. While Speaker presentations are incredibly diverse in terms of topic and format, they all share a common feature-the opportunity for audiences to come together and learn from each other. Organizations interested in celebrating the Civil War Sesquicentennial should take note of the talks offered in the Civil War Era, African American Experience,  Pennsylvania History and Culture and Women through History categories.  Presentations on general history topics are available as well.

Visit the PHC’s website to peruse the catalog and view NEW guidelines and requirements. To apply, simply fill out an application, include the $75 application fee and mail it to the PHC.  Applications must be received at least 8 weeks before the proposed event date. The new coordinator of the Commonwealth Speakers Program, Jennifer Danifo, would be happy to answer any questions.  She can be reached at jdanifo@pahumanities.org, (800) 462-0442, or (215) 925-1005 ext. 110.
