Cocktails & History: Civil War Submarine H.L. Hunley

The Erie Maritime Museum invites you to join them for “Cocktails & History” October 23rd for brief history of the Civil War Submarine H.L. Hunley with Jon Tirpak. The cocktail reception begins at 5 pm and the program kicks off at 6 pm.

The H.L. Hunley was an experimental vessel that was the first successful submarine in world history. Maneuvered by 8 men, the Hunley vanished into the sea without a trace February 17, 1864 after ramming her spar torpedo into the hull of the USS Housatonic and signaling to comrades on Sullivan Island that the mission was a success.

After 136 years at the bottom of the ocean floor, the Hunley was brought to the surface August 2000 and is now being conserved at The Warren Lasch Conservation Center in Charleston, SC.

Tickets: $20 non-members/ $15 members
