For more than twenty years, PHC’s Commonwealth Speakers program has featured experts from a variety of backgrounds – history scholars, art and museum educators, artists and musicians who offer presentations on a wide range of popular subjects. While Speaker presentations are incredibly diverse in terms of topic and format, they all share a common feature, the opportunity for audiences to come together and learn from each other.
The 2012-13 Commonwealth Speakers catalog features more than 50 Speakers offering presentations on topics like Harriet Tubman, Civil War history, the history and songs of Pennsylvania coal miners and the Pennsylvania Germans. Non-profits interested in celebrating Black History Month, Women’s History Month and the Civil War Sesquicentennial should take note of the talks offered in our The African American Experience, The Civil War Era and Women Through History categories.
Non-profits can apply for one presentation per calendar year. To apply, simply fill out an application, include the $75 application fee and mail it to the PHC. Applications must be received at least 8 weeks before the proposed event date. Visit PHC’s website to explore the Commonwealth Speaker catalog and to view guidelines and download an application form. Please note: the Cultural Data Project requirement has been waived for 2012.
